The Best of 2019: A Year in Review
Another year has come and gone. 2019 is in the history books as we move into 2020 and a new decade. The year 2019 was another hugely successful year, both professionally and personally. Our major focus for 2019 was helping teachers & coaches, and I feel very satisfied that we were able to achieve this goal by:
- Working with teachers and coaches in person at events like the Coaches Association of Ontario Conference in Markham, The British Columbia Physical & Health Education Conference in Vancouver and with the University of British Columbia HOPE Cohort at their Living Inquiry event.
- Having a huge increase in enrolment for our Online Courses. We currently have over 400 students taking part in online learning through iPhys-Ed.com including all teachers from entire school districts in North Carolina & Pennsylvania.
- Launching the Purposeful Games Database, a growing collection of quality games for use by teachers & coaches which provide modifications, assessment criteria and teacher questions to assist in the delivery of purposeful learning experiences.
Podcast Highlights for 2019
In 2019 I was able to release seven new episodes of the PhysEdcast and was lucky enough to learn from some amazing physical educators, academics and even a teacher who hated #PhysEd as a child and is now teaching it!! On the final day of 2019 I released a “Best Of” episode where I pulled together the best bits from all the 2019 episodes into a highlight reel. You can listen to the episode here:

Looking Ahead to 2020
Enough dwelling in the past, let’s look forward to all the exciting things coming up in 2020. Now that our family is complete and my life is filled with Disney soundtracks and Elsa dresses (if you know…you know!) I look forward to my first priority being spending as much time with my family as possible. In any spare time that I have I plan to make sure that I am exercising and enjoying all the amazing outdoor spaces that British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest have to offer. I will be continuing my Masters courses, working to ensure that my PHE Department at Meadowridge continues to offer our students every opportunity to develop their physical literacy and “live well.”
I am also extremely excited to announce that I will be one of the keynote speakers at the upcoming National Physical Education & School Sport Institute in Asheville, North Carolina from July 13-15, 2020. I will be my second time on the stage in Asheville and I look forward to seeing the #PhysEd family all together there again for this special event – sadly it’s probably the last one ;( so try your best to make it.
iPhys-Ed.com will continue to develop resources, online courses, purposeful games and professional learning opportunities throughout 2020. A couple of exciting things to look forward to include:
- Brand New Online Courses launching in 2020
- Doubling the number of games in our Purposeful Games Database to over 100 games!
In addition to the conferences I was able to present at in 2019, I was able to consult and work with teachers in schools across North America, both in person and online. If you are interested in exploring ways in which I could assist you, your school, or district with your professional learning event or plans I am taking bookings for 2020 now. If you are not sure how it could help, but are interested please feel free to reach out to me via email and I would be happy to discuss with you and tailor a professional learning experience which fits your needs.
Thanks again to each and every one of you for your continued support of iPhys-Ed.com across 2019 and I look forward to helping you deliver purposeful physical education in 2020.
Regards,
